Since we don’t have a clinic, what can we do at home?

Well it turns out- a LOT!

We are currently able to offer many of the same services as your local clinic, and our list is constantly growing!

Check back frequently to see our updated service list

Here’s what can be done at home:

  • Labwork

    • We have the ability to run all labs a traditional clinic can run, including all bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal testing, heartworm testing, tissue sampling, bacterial cultures, etc. Most labs will be available within 24 hours.

  • Vaccines

    • We will work with you to discuss which vaccines are appropriate for your pet based on lifestyle- we will never recommend vaccines you don't need, but we will strongly advocate for your pet to get the shots needed to protect them from fatal and serious illnesses.

  • Medications

    • We carry a supply of injectable and oral medications with us, so we can treat your pet's illness immediately during the visit, including pain medication, antibiotics, antinausea/diarrhea, etc. For preventative medications such as flea/tick, heartworm, and long-term medication refills, we will work with you to set up a hassle free shipment to your house.

  • Fluids

    • We carry fluids with us and are able to administer subcutaneous fluids in your home. If your pet requires more intensive care, we may recommend referral to a local ER for IV fluid therapy.

  • Ear Products

    • Ear infections are one of the most common problems we see, and we carry both ear cleansers and medications to treat this condition. Our newer products are a one time only application which we will do for you, eliminating the need for you to continue to clean and medicate your pet's painful ears.

  • Skin & Allergy Therapies

    • San Diego is a hot spot for allergies. Far and away some of the most common and frustrating problems for pets here are skin infections and incessant itching secondary to these allergies. We carry several products that can GREATLY improve the level of your pet’s comfort and reduce the frequency of infections.

  • Wound Care

    • We have the ability to treat wounds ranging from minor cuts and scrapes to more serious bite wounds or lacerations requiring stitches. We are able to perform light sedation in your home. If your pet is elderly or has other conditions that make it unsafe to sedate them for stitches, we may recommend referral to a local hospital for general anesthesia and monitoring.

  • Mass/Growth Evaluation

    • We can evaluate any new growths on your pet and if the doctor determines testing is indicated, can either collect a small sample of cells or a small biopsy to determine if this is cancerous. We do not perform large mass removals in the home.

  • Anal Glands/Nails

    • We can express your pet’s anal glands and trim their nails if we are seeing your pet for a wellness exam or sick pet visit. We aren’t able to make a visit just for these things but are happy to add it on if needed! If you are in need of only  these specific services without other medical needs, a mobile groomer will be your best resource.

  • Arthritis/Chronic Pain Management

    • Arthritis is one of the most common causes of pain and decline in quality of life in our older patients. Dr. Brown has a special interest in chronic pain management for these elderly pets, and we are proud to offer the most up to date options for pain management in both cats and dogs.

  • Palliative Care

    • If your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, we can help with hospice/palliative care to keep them as comfortable as possible during their end of life transition, as well as helping guide you on quality of life decisions and knowing when it is time to consider euthanasia.

  • Euthanasia and Aftercare Services

    • Euthanasia: Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy, but the transition is very smooth and peaceful, particularly when done at home. Dr. Brown has been performing in-home euthanasias for several years and has adopted many practices to make your pet's last moments beautiful and stress free.

    • Cremation/Aquamation: We work with both a traditional cremation company and an aquamation company to provide aftercare for your pet, depending on your preference. Both companies offer communal cremation/aquamation with ashes scattered at sea or private cremation/aquamation with ashes returned to you. Both companies also offer a variety of memorial products.

We provide many services but certain cases are beyond the scope of a house call vet.

If your pet is exhibiting any of the symptoms listed below, please contact one of the emergency hospitals listed here.
